“Always believe in your mustard seed and you can move mountains.”- Jennifer Connor

Jennifer Connor is a woman who believes that we all have a purpose, and sometimes it can be found in the most unexpected places.

While Jennifer was in college, she frequented a local hamburger shop that served homemade mustards. “I’d go there just for this mustard.  I loved this mustard and I’d buy it and take it home and put it on everything.”

When she heard the owner was going to retire and wanted to sell his recipes, Jennifer jumped at the chance. “I went to him and told him I wanted to buy his recipes and grow the business.  He asked me what my major in college was and when I told him art history, he told me he thought it was impossible and there was no way I could run a business.  I asked him to give me a week before he made any decisions, and I’d be back to tell him my plan.”

Jen decided to go to her family’s vacation home in Wisconsin for some personal reflection. “I asked the Universe for a sign…a rainbow, a four leaf clover, a shooting star; some kind of sign that I was meant to buy this business.”

Jennifer didn’t get the sign she was looking for, so she headed home. Stopping in a church, she once again asked for a sign.  She told herself that if the priest even mentioned the word yellow, she’d take that as her sign.

Once she sat down the priest began speaking; his homily’s topic? The Mustard Seed. “There comes a time when we all have doubt,” he began, “remember the mustard seed. If you have faith as small as a mustard seed you can move mountains.”

She couldn’t believe her ears. This was the sign she had been searching for. She bought the recipes and never looked back.

“I knew it would be hard, but I believed I could do it, and I knew there was a bigger message here. I wanted my story to be a source of inspiration for women and girls who have a dream.”

Mustard Girl Gourmet Mustards are now sold in restaurants and over 650 stores across the United States, and the girl who loved mustard is now officially known as ‘Mustard Girl.’

“It was a long journey, but I was determined. As a young girl I was never the prettiest or smartest, but I knew I had a purpose, I just didn’t know what it was. Now I do, and it’s the most amazing feeling. I love telling my story and inspiring other women to believe in themselves and the power of a dream. If you have faith and don’t give up, miracles happen!”
